PEOPLE from the Gannawarra Shire and beyond enjoyed the monthly Cohuna Farmers and Makers Market.
Recently it was announced the market will continue to receive support from the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA), which has extended their sponsorship of the monthly community fixture for a further two years.
The North Central CMA has sponsored the market for the past three years and provides $2,000 to the community market every twelve months.
Market manager Sarah Mostyn said the sponsorship is paramount for the not-for-profit organisation.
“The sponsorship is hugely important,” Ms Mostyn said.
“Prior to having the support from North Central CMA the market would just run on bare-bones, and I would tip in money whenever we didn’t have quite enough.
“For a little not-for-profit organisation, $2,000 is a very significant boost and is very beneficial.
“It’s always been important for us as a committee to keep our store fees low so it’s not a barrier to entry, we want the market to be accessible for everyone.
“Our oldest store holder is 90, and our youngest stall member is 11.
“The sponsorship also contributes to our entertainment budget, providing free live music at events as well as our monthly raffle prizes.”
Ms Mostyn said the market is where the best of Cohuna is on show.
“Each month we have quality produce and quality goods, but it’s also really important in terms of community connection,” she said.
“It’s a monthly catch-up for the community, and we do quite often see the same community members enjoying the market each month.
“It gives them a chance to grab a coffee, have a stroll around the park and reconnect, and we’ve got games so that families can have some downtime and enjoyment with kids.”
North Central CMA chief executive Brad Drust said the agency was delighted to extend the sponsorship.
