Calling all summer bookworms

CHILDREN and young adults can win prizes for reading and listening to audiobooks during the summer holidays with the BIG Summer Read, with entries open until Friday, January 31.

Open to people aged 0-18, every entrant who reads 10 books or for 10 hours goes into the running for the statewide ReadBooks competition prize draw.

Gannawarra Library Service is operating their own competition for students who attended primary school in 2024, alongside the statewide program.

“The Big Summer Read is a great reason for children and young adults to keep reading or experiencing audiobooks during the summer break,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said.

“The program has grown to become a highlight of the Gannawarra Library Service’s annual events program, with staff renowned for supporting any children who wish to participate.”

Readers can get a bonus entry to the prize draw by getting their special Bonus Entry Bookmark stamped by a librarian each time they visit, with five stamps earning one bonus entry.

Readers can register at the library and collect their BIG Summer Read reading log and Bonus Entry Bookmark and borrow some books to start reading.

Those interested can also join the ReadBooks BIG Summer Read competition at readbooks.com.au/bsr.
