New Year’s party in Atkinson Park

KERANG Progress Association is proud to be hosting its 10th New Year’s Eve party in the park – all paid for with community fundraising.

President Angela Teasdale said the event had been fortunate to receive funding throughout the year, as well as funds raised at lawn bowls, trivia night and bingo.

“The event goes from strength to strength each year,” she said.

Held at Atkinson Park from 6pm, there will be fireworks at 9.30pm and midnight.

There will also be live music by Jeff Tynan, food vendors and children’s entertainment.

Ms Teasdale said costs had escalated this year, including the fireworks and band.

“It’s a great family-friendly community event,” she said.

“We put it on for the community because we’re a not-for-profit organisation; we put it on purely for the enjoyment of the community, locals and visitors alike.

“There’s lots of visitors to this area over that period of time.

“It’s just important to get the troops together, rally everyone together to see out the new that was and bring in the new year.”

The event always attracted a big crowd, with more than 1000 people revelling into the early morning.

No glass is allowed and people should bring their own chairs.

“It’s just a nice social evening,” Ms Teasdale said.

“Enjoy the good music, enjoy the food.

“We have face painting and jumping castle, Rotary train, balloons and glow products.”

Ms Teasdale said the community was fortunate to have Progress still operating.

“Without the ongoing support and commitment of the Progress Association, events like this would not be possible,” she said.
