Kerang Golf bowls notes

Kerang Golf

NORTHERN Valley Pennant saw Swan Hill Racecourse playing their first game at Kerang Golf last Saturday.

In what was a very exciting game Racecourse won overall on the last bowl of the day by three shots. Dallas Mathers lost by eight shots, Richie Murray by six shots and the only winner on the day was Frank Ritchie’s side by 11 shots. A greatly improved effort that indicates we can be competitive in this competition.

Our Division 2 team travelled to Pyramid Hill and went down 65-48. Laurie Gray’s side continued its good form again winning by 15 shots, which wasn’t enough to cover the losses of Graeme Hayes by 20 shots and Greg Beck by 12 shots.

Division 3 also travelled, to Cohuna to take on Cohuna 3, and came way with a win by 38 shots.

Best winning rink was David Randell’s winning by 22 shots. They were closely followed by Gary Borg’s rink who won by 19 shots. Unfortunately Noel Robertson’s rink went down by three shots.

The best winning rink over the the three divisions on the day was David Randell, Judy McKerrow, Trevor Linton and Craig Hicks who took home the Royal Hotel vouchers. Thank you to the Royal Hotel for their continued support.

The Midweek team played at Kerang last Wednesday and after leading comfortably during the game, a fightback by Kerang saw them hit the overall lead with one end remaining.

However, Lloyd Murray’s team was equal to the task, drawing two shots on the final end to get the Golf team over the line by one shot. Loyd’s team won 24/19 and Frank Ritchie’s rink was up by nine shots, and these two covered Jimmy McLeish’s 13-shot loss. Well done to this team.

Twilight Triples was played in very warm conditions and the winners with 29 points was the Hayes Real Estate team with Graeme, Brett Hipworth and Dave Wood winning the Choice Cut Butchers vouchers for this week. They only won by one shot, with Team Charles also getting 29 points, but only 12 shots up, compared to Hayes Real Estate’s 13 shots.

Chocolates to Taylor Ashton Painting – think Fonzy better come back into the team next week.

The annual TerryWhite Chemist Triples Tournament was played last Thursday and 22 teams from our playing area and Murray Valley enjoyed the Kerang Golf hospitality.

At the completion of the regulatory three games, winners from Cohuna Golf were Yvonne Eckhart, Ron Eckhart and Frank Tresize from Racecourse (Swan Hill) team with Rhonda Ballard, Ian (Giggles) Howard and Wayne Brooks from Cohuna Bowls Club in third place.

Best last-game winner was the Wakool team of Ricky Ainsworth, Graeme Rowland and Rod Chalmers. Winners of the prestigious chocolates were the Kerang Golf side of Fonzie Taylor, Noel Robertson and Gary Borg. A great day was had by all and many thanks to our sponsor Terry White Chemists.

Congratulations to Frank and Lorraine Ritchie who have both made the team to play in the trial games at Ouyen on December 1.

Championship games are now down to the last 16, with games to be played over the next three weeks – please arrange your games before the due dates.

Our CluBarham Star Day Tournament is on Sunday, December 1 – any-combination fours – this is our major tournament for the year, so get your teams organised. Fliers are now available and will be distributed this week.
