Wandella show strength

BOB SUTTERBY

WANDELLA hosted the embattled Ultima TUF in B Grade at the weekend at West Turf, and took no time in asserting their position as an early-season finals contender.

With a little help from an A Grade bye, they poured on an impressive 5/293 from their 40 overs, with Sam Copeland (152 not out) leading the charge.

Sent in to chase the mammoth total, Ultima fell short and were all out for 69.

Again young Harry Pearson bowled spectacularly well in taking 4/15 off his five overs.

Wandella head to Wycheproof to take on Calder United in round 5.

Kerang headed up the highway to meet Sea Lake-Woomelang and unfortunately for the Navy Blues it was a tough day at the office.

Sea Lake-Woomelang were sent into bat and Cal Noonan (125 not out) went the distance with several batting partners to set a sizeable 5/215.

In reply, Kerang struggled to find their feet at the crease, eventually all out for 95, with only Ash Goodwin (23) and Rylan Delamare (21) able to work the bat.

Kerang will look to next week, hosting the hot-and-cold Lakers at East Turf.

Barham Koondrook hosted Tooleybuc at Barham and looked to be in a very winnable position having the visitors all out for 147 in the 32nd over, thanks to a four-wicket haul by Ryder Laursen.

However, it seemed the momentum didn’t carry over to the batting side, with six Raiders out in single figures.

Steve Farrant looked good early, with a handy 21, but none of the other Barham Koondrook players were able to stick in, finishing all out for 112 in reply.

The old-players’ function at Barham Koondrook was well attended and the club should be commended for keeping the history of cricket in the region alive.

Murrabit decisively took the cookies again this week, travelling to St Mary’s Tyntynder.

Bowling first, they dismissed the embattled Bulldogs for 123, with Jack Campbell taking an impressive 4/25 off his seven overs.

Sending in the young players early nearly backfired on the Blues, with a shaky start having them 2/27, before Toby Gray stepped in with 76 not out, including 10 fours and two sixes.

He was partnered well by Zeb Hein with 16 from 54 balls, while making sure the hot-handed Gray was on strike.

Murrabit will be hosting Barham Koondrook in round 5, in what could be a decisive game for both clubs.
