Kerang
WHAT a difference a week makes in bowls. From boiled lollies to chocolates this week, all teams walked away with wins.
Kerang 1 defeated a gallant Barham by 16 shots. Kerang 2 defeated top-of-the-table Wakool by 13 shots. Kerang 3 defeated Cohuna Golf by seven with Kerang 4 outlasting Gunny/Golf by five shots overall.
Against a Barham team who had a point to prove playing for second position, Kerang 1 didn’t get the message and went onward to a very handy three-rink win by 16 shots. This win was highlighted by an eight-shot win to Team Wilson while the other two rinks gutsed it out for respective rink wins also.
We have now played everyone once and have some perspective over the competition and have realised that there are no easy wins in the Northern Valley.
Kerang 2 hosted the Southern Riverina township of Wakool for what proved a great day for the Black Ducks. A two-rink win up there is always well earnt against the Wakool combination.
Team Brown gave a fair old start to experienced bowler in Mainy and clawed back to win, after being 3-12 at one stage, then crawled back to eventually overtake the opposition and post a four-shot win.
Team Pay bounced out to an early lead and were able to hold that until the middle parts, where it got to one the difference. The foot was applied to the pedal again and they drew away in the latter stages to win by 10 shots.
Team Hein nearly stole it after being down all day. One stage it looked very bleak being down 5-16 before staging a fightback for the ages, hitting the lead going into the last end where Wakool scored two shots to hit the lead at the right time by a shot.
Kerang 3 met Cohuna Golf at Cohuna Golf and came away winners to the tune of seven shots. This was emphasised by Team Coobs’ performance winning by 18 shots to provide a nice cushion for the other teams which we did need. Team McBain battled all day and walked away winners with Team Adams suffering a loss but held on enough for the team’s positive result.
Kerang 4 rounded out the quadrella with a gutsy performance against Gunny/Golf at Cohuna Golf. Team Pendlebury had a timely six-shot win with Team Infantino getting up by one. Team King battled manfully to just go down by two shots. Overall win by five shots.
Black Duck Social Triples wasn’t held due to Melbourne Cup celebrations with many a sweep conducted and a great day on the greens to boot. Credit to anyone who provided a plate to share at lunch. Not an expense spare might I add.
In Midweek Pennant, Kerang Golf proved the longer stayers beating our Mighty Black Duck Warriors by a solitary shot with the last bowl not being played. Team Murray had a 13-shot win with losses to Team Pocock down by nine and Team Hamon down by five.
Kerang 2 went down to a powerful performance by Barham 3 by a margin of 29 shots. One rink down by 20 and one by nine. We have vowed revenge Barham 3. Let us be heard!
