Tribute bands Gold Chisel and Midnight Oil Tribute, Power and Passion set to rock

The spirit of two iconic Aussie bands will fill the clubBarham auditorium on August 10 as tribute acts Gold Chisel and Midnight Oil Tribute, Power and Passion, take the audience back to the time of raw and passionate pub rock.

Gold Chisel frontman, Andy Lutze, said that he started out doing the tribute show for a year to see how it went – and that was 25 years ago.

Lutze said he tried to escape the comparisons of his voice to the great Jimmy Barnes as it hampered his solo career until his brother encouraged him to embrace it.

“If you asked me back then what I would be doing in 20 years time there is no way in a million years I thought we would still be doing this, it just snowballed,” he said.

“When Cold Chisel reformed briefly in 2012, we thought that was it, there would be no more need for us, but they only did the one tour and disbanded again.

“All it did was to introduce Cold Chisel music to a whole new generation of people and ever since then we have barely had a weekend off.

“We have been touring the country with nearly 70 per cent of all our shows sold out.”

Billed as a double shot of iconic Aussie rock, the two tribute bands decided to team up more than 18 months ago, just as the original bands did in the 80s to bring audiences an experience as true to the original sound as possible.

Leading off the show Power and Passion takes the audience through an anthology of classic Midnight Oil hits as well as some of the bands album tracks.

Alex Nell, who heads up Power and Passion, taking on the persona of Peter Garrett, said that Midnight Oil is a band he has enjoyed for as long as he can remember.

Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8.30pm start and tickets are available from www.clubarham.com.au or club reception.
