Passive violence towards a woman

How sad that remains of native ducks were dumped outside the home of a local wildlife campaigner (Letters, Gannawarra Times, 23/04/24).

This is not a “funny prank,” it is intimidation and passive violence towards a woman.

The unspoken message is: “We know where you live, and we want to silence you”.

In that same opening week, there was also a report of a duck shooter exposing himself to two female duck rescuers.

It’s ironic to hear the Premier Jacinta Allan lamenting violence to women while turning a blind eye to the loutish behaviour of duck shooters.

Why are there no random checks for blood alcohol or drugs at wetlands?

Many regional residents loathe duck season but are afraid to speak out.

On my visits to Kerang, I always wonder why there is no promotion of its Ramsar status. A lonely, rusty Ibis adorns a sign on the Koondrook-Kerang Road.

A poster inside the Shire Office invites visitors to “Experience some of the amazing waterways loaded with birdlife and river red gums” but doesn’t mention the shotguns violating birdlife.

There are busloads of people seeking new tourism attractions in Victoria. It’s time Gannawarra divorced itself from duck shooting.
