Meat and greet for men

MEN from the Gannawarra Shire are encouraged to attend a free night of entertainment at Tree Top Scout Camp later this month.

The shire will host the HALT on Tour in Gannawarra event on Friday, March 22 from 6.15pm.

There will be a barbecue masterclass and presentation from Hope Assistance Local Tradies (HALT) founder Jeremy Forbes, who will share his powerful tips for men looking out for each other.

“Looking out for each other is important, especially after natural disasters such as the 2022 floods and recent flash flooding,” council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said.

“This special event will enable men from throughout the municipality to come together and socialise over a meal, made possible thanks to the OMG BBQ meat masterclass.

“Jeremy Forbes’ presentation on the founding of Hope Assistance Local Tradies, a national grassroots campaign that raises awareness of mental health and supporting each other through tough times, will also be a poignant reminder that we all play a role in ensuring the health of our mates.”

Mr Forbes is no stranger to the Gannawarra region, previously visiting local businesses in the past to spread suicide prevention awareness.

HALTs host Save Your Bacon Brekkies and safeTALK events for tradies and apprentices at workplaces, hardware stores, sporting clubs, men’s sheds and TAFEs across Australia to raise awareness of mental health and connect people with local and national support services.

HALT events provide tradies and apprentices with the tools to start conversations about mental health, and they encourage tradies to support their mates when they’re going through tough times.

A pop-up barber stand will also provide free haircuts.

Guests will be in the running to win numerous prizes, including a two-litre Yeti insulated drinker, barbecue goods and camp chairs.

HALT will also be visiting male-dominated workplaces across the Gannawarra as part of the tour.
