Midweek Pennant bowls began last week, and the word is that Kerang had a couple missing in their match against Conuna. Haven’t heard how both teams went.
Regional bowls also kicked off last week, and this is one step below state selection, and was being played in Ballarat.
Barham had Brody Harker and Jason Lunghusen having a crack, and Cohuna golf was represented by Jarod Hammond and Harrison Keely.
Brody and Jarod had state trials late last year, but I believe they weren’t selected.
There are a few local kids representing the Southern Riverina Cricket in the Geoff Lawson Cup starting January 28.
Nick Oliver is captain of the Under-14s teams, and other locals are Mitch Gilbert from Murrabit, Caleb Ralston from Koondrook, Eve Snowdon from the Murray Rangers, Harrison Pearson from Kerang, Jobe Hein from Murrabit, with doyens of local cricket Rohan Oliver and Brad Hein coaching.
Koondrook lad Kynan Lausen is captain of the Under-16 team.

So it’s been a bit wet.
We have 17km of levees around town – if it was a 17km circle it would be 22.9 square kilometres inside the levee equals 2290 hectares.
Because the levee around town isn’t a circle, we’ll say it’s 3.5km by 5km equals 17.5 square kilometres or 1750 hectares. (Yep, surprised me too).
Put 250mm of rain over that area means 1750 hectares by 2.5 decimetres equals 4375 megalitres or 4.3 gigalitres has fallen inside the levee since Christmas Day (up to January 12).
That’s a bit of water we have to get rid of, and considering it all came in a pretty short time and we had no power, the town has probably got off fairly cheaply. But try and tell that to someone who had water in their house though, or some of the farmers who had water in their place for months in the past.
The Shire is all over this and, apart from doing lots of pumping, have already been spraying for mosquitos.
First on the Shire’s list will be generators so a blackout won’t affect us again, and many other solutions will be considered.
No, we can’t replace all the town’s underground pipes – that’d cost billions – plus we would have to close Victoria street for a while if we did that, and no one would want that again.

Wouldn’t you ask why was he going to find it hard to get any Test cricket, and the answer would most likely be because he’s not good enough.
He’s not in the top seven batsmen in the country and he’s not in the top five bowlers in the country, so how can they justify giving him a game? It’s because he’s an “all-rounder”. For goodness sake.
Form in domestic cricket is clearly not rated, so this devalues the Sheffield Shield.
And why does Smith want to open? What does he know that we don’t? Always thought it would be best to swap an opener for an opener, especially when Smith batting at four was working well.
Maybe Smith realises that the Windies opening bowlers are second rate and he thinks he can get some runs if he opens.
We should clearly defeat them 2-0 and then the selectors will claim they were right.
It seems the selectors have no criteria to warrant selection.
