Cohuna Golf
A VERY good roll up for social bowls again, 24 players on the greens with a few just practicing.
We welcomed Jason Heard from golf and Peter Coates must have enjoyed last week as he returned for another game.
Winners on the day were Jeff (s), Marg R, Marian and Corale.
Jeff is going away for a month, just to give the rest of us a chance in the winning circle. Enjoy the break, Jeff.
Wednesday night was our AGM. The biggest surprise of the night was the stepping down of our long-time secretary Peter VanderZande. Peter has been our very diligent secretary for 17 years.
Quietly going about applying for grants, writing letters and spending numerous hours on the phone.
The club would like to acknowledge how much you have contributed during your time in office, Peter. You will be missed but you will now have more time for your other love, croquet. The greens committee will make sure you are not idle also.
Rhonda Ballard also relinquished her position as lady spokesperson. Rhonda does so much work behind the scenes that most people would be unaware of.
It has been my pleasure to work with her over the past three years. Well done, Rhonda, and thank you from all the members for the time you spent at the club during your tenure in office. You did a top job keeping us all happy as well as making sure everything was running smoothly. Thank you and well done.
Any positions not nominated before the meeting were filled from the floor. Thank you to those members who took on a job, enjoy your time in office.
Pie and soup triples on Thursday was again a huge success. Winners were Peter Bibby, Rhonda Bibby and Steven Brown.
Runners-up were Mike Hofman, Rob Wilson and Gaye Simms. Third place went to Bruce Morrison, Mick Carmody and Lee Nightingall.
Saturday had 23 players looking for a game. Welcome to Peter Griffiths from Leitchville and Moss from golf. The greens were superb, the weather was fantastic and the bowls were not too bad either.
Only two two-game winners but again Peter Bibby’s team won the day.
Social bowls will continue while the weather is good and people want to play. Names in by 12.15pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Kerang Golf
THURSDAY bowls had 19 players participating in the warm and sunny conditions.
The greens have gone into their “dormancy” condition and the bright green colour has changed to the brown winter rest period. However, they are still bowling excellently and players are enjoying their weekly games.
After the normal two games, there were three combinations who won both games.
With a 17-shot margin, Rob Malseed and Trevor Burmeister took out first place, with Rob “Curly” Curtis and Neil Paul coming in second with their two wins and 12 shots up. Consolation to Sonia McLeish, Rob Fisher and Jeff Anderson who also won both their games. Chocolates to the team of Noel Robertson, Bryce McLeish and Dave Wood.
On Sunday, the weather gods were again perfect with their sunny conditions and a group of bowlers turned out for a game of “Scroungers”.
After the qualifying ends, the four winners then played off over two ends to find the eventual winner. Judy McKerrow was that lucky person, with Sonia McLeish being the runner-up.
It was good to see the mothers collecting the spoils on their special day. Third place to Jimmy McLeish and Stuart “Blocker” Robinson finished fourth and received a small chocolate bar. The low scorers then played off, with Craig Hicks coming out as the best of this group.
Social bowls will continue on Thursdays and Sundays with registration at 12.45pm and bowls to commence at 1pm. Everyone is welcome to come and have a game.
This is the last of the regular bowls notes for the winter period, as the scribe has a “well earned” break in the warm weather in northern Australia.
