THE club presentation day was held last Sunday with a great turnout of members, enjoying the afternoon of bowls and the presentation of trophies won during the season. After 25mm of rain on Saturday night, the green bowled exceptionally well and the sun was shining.
The excellent afternoon tea provided by our members was enjoyed by all and the atmosphere in the clubhouse was taken to a new level with the singing of the theme song by the victorious Midweek Division 2 team after president Gary Borg presented them with the premiership flag. He congratulated the team for their success after an outstanding, undefeated pennant season. Team photos of the premiership team were then distributed to the players in recognition of their achievement.
Club champions Carol Pay and Frank Ritchie were congratulated on their wins as were all other winners and runners-up of the various club events.
It was great to see Dale Spinks presenting the Claire Spinks Memorial Trophy to Carol, as was the presentation of the Lindsay Stewart Memorial for the men’s 100-up winner, Frank Ritchie, by Faye Burton. A special presentation was made to Rob “Curly” Curtis as he had celebrated his 80th birthday and president Gary pinned on his “veteran” badge.
There were 30 players for Sunday bowls and the winning team was Howard McClelland, John Murphy and Rosie Laughlin on a countback from Carol Pay, Gary Borg and Bryce McLeish. Both teams finished with two wins and 11 shots up. Third place went to Frank Ritchie, Stuart Robinson and Rob Malseed. Encouragement chocolates went to Graeme Hayes, Joycey Tuohey and Neil Paul.
On Thursday 19 players participated on the Alec Mitchell Green. After two games, the winning combination was Carol Pay, Craig Hicks and Dale Spinks. They won both games and finished 13 shots up.
Dale also snared the two money spins, completing a winning afternoon. The runners-up were Marlene Orr, Trevor Linton and Bryce McLeish with two wins as well, but only 10 shots up. Encouragement chocolates went to Rob Fisher, Trevor Burmeister and Noel Robertson.
Social bowls will continue on Thursday afternoons as usual and will change to Sundays, now that the local football season has commenced.
