BEST wishes and good luck to the Midweek Division 2 team, who will contest the grand final at Cohuna Golf tomorrow. The team remains unchanged from the team that won the second semi-final. Judy McKerrow, Joyce Tuohey, Rosie Laughlin and Lorraine Douglass will play in team 1 and Lorraine Ritchie, Sonia McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Allison Medson in team 2.
Congratulations to the Saturday Pennant winners, Cohuna in Division 1, Barham 2 in Division 2 and Barham 4 in Division 3. The Division 1 game was a closely contested game all afternoon and the winning margin was two shots.
On a local scene, we have seen the completion of the ladies Championship events over the last week, with Lorraine Ritchie and Sonia McLeish winning the Pairs Championship with a win over Marlene Orr and Carol Pay. Lorraine and Sonia played exceptionally well for the full 15 ends and won convincingly, with excellent draw bowling. Also, the 100 Up final was played on Friday, with Lorraine Ritchie playing Lorraine Douglass. Congratulations to Lorraine Ritchie who won, to add to her pairs win earlier in the week.
The men’s matches are slowly being completed and those games that need to be completed need to do so as soon as possible.
The Wednesday evening Barefoot Bowls competition has two weeks to go and an exciting conclusion is coming up. The ladder leader at this stage is Hayes Real Estate with 146 points, just three in front of Lake Charm Boat Club on 143. Crackerjacks (126) and Royal Hotel (125) are not out of contention in third and fourth positions. Winners last week were Lake Charm Boat Club with Jimmy and Bryce McLeish, Jeff Anderson and Trevor Linton collecting the Choice Cut Butchers vouchers for this week with 31 points. Lions were runners-up with 30 points. The “encouragement” award went to the previous week’s winners, Crackerjacks, who welcomed their leader back in to the team, and only won five ends for the night.
On Thursday 12 players played triples and not one combination could win both their games. Ronnie McKerrow, Marlene Rawson and Rob “Curly” Curtis ended up as winners with their seven shots up, being in front of Jim McLeish, Rob Malseed and Rosie Laughlin with three shots up. Chocolates to Judy McKerrow, Howard McClelland and Craig Hicks. Social bowls will now start on Saturdays as well as the normal Thursday event. Have names in by 12.45pm for a 1pm start for both days.
