Spitty family share in golf success

IS this the start of a new family dynasty of golfers?

On Wednesday the Kerang Golf Club finalised its Ladies Championships with the Spitty name being very prominent in the winner’s circle once again.

Olive, 13, had previously won the Singles Championship on two occasions and won it again this year with scores of 71+80=151. She also won the Commonwealth Golf Club and Murray Downs ladies championships this year.

Younger sister Mabel, 9, continued the family tradition of winning championships, taking out the B Grade trophy with scores of 95+91=186. This last round was her best score ever.

Add to that father Andrew’s outstanding record of winning eight singles championships out of the last 12, that is quite a unique family situation.

The Kerang Golf Club has a great record in producing family champions from Ian Laughlin (26 times) and sons Paul (six times) and Anthony (once), plus grandson Adam (once) and not to forget granddaughter Bree (three times). Also, Jan (three times) and Laine (winning in 2008 and 2010) Harry, in the ladies and men’s championships.

It’s likely not many golf clubs around Australia can claim a better record.
