A NEW chapter is about to be written at Kerang’s library, with the public encouraged to have their say on the concept design for the expansion.
To be located at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library, the project, titled The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra, will enable this popular facility to provide space for new and emerging community programs.
“The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra is a unique project that will create a space for our regional communities to connect, collaborate, create and celebrate together,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said.
Supported by $1.5 million from the State Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra will be incorporated into the library space, with the concept design featuring two soundproof pods which can be used to develop media projects; an additional gallery space that will complement current facilities; a meeting area that can be enclosed from the main building; LED walls that can display creative installations, and; new landscaping, including an indigenous garden and ceremonial fire pit celebrating links to the Gannawarra’s Indigenous culture.
“Once completed, this new space will enable the Gannawarra Library Service to plan and deliver youth programs including movie making, sound and music recording and enabling lifelong learning through the use of digital technology,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“The incorporation of a new meeting space will provide a new area for council and community groups to hold gatherings, whilst the new building’s design will integrate the historic Lester Smith Water Tower, combining the new infrastructure with the old.”
Residents can have their say regarding the concept design between now and 5pm on September 14.
Councillors and staff will be at Victoria Square from 11am to 1pm on September 9 to answer questions about the project.
You can also add feedback to the conversation board located at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library and/or by completing a Have Your Say form on council’s website.
Mr O’Reilly said all feedback received would assist with developing plans further prior to tendering for construction.
