IT has been a long time coming for the students at Kerang Technical High School to stretch their legs and have a day of healthy exercise together.
The school recently held its athletics carnival and junior school leader Zoe Ferrier couldn’t be more pleased to see the kids running around again.
“It’s great to finally see the kids being able to spend some time together outside after the past couple of years as we haven’t had an athletics carnival for two years,” she said.
“The day went really well, the kids had a lot of fun, and thankfully the weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed that.”
The day will be well remembered for some of the costumes worn by Year 12 students, which included students taking on identities from iron men to sharks.
“It was awesome to see the Year 12s all dressed up – they really enjoyed it,” Ms Ferrier said.
There were plenty of new record-setters on the day, with Jack Keath, Demi Greenwood, Brodie Meehan, Maddie Walle, Sean Hunter, Bainli Galway, Jay Osborne and Lily Wise all setting new school bests.
The much-loved McKissack Trophy was taken out by joint winners this year, with Bainli Galway and Bryce Anderson crowned as the school’s best.
“What we do is tally up the results from all the events, and whoever achieves the best results across the whole day is rewarded with the McKissack Trophy,” Ms Ferrier said.
It isn’t the end of athletics this year for the school, though, with the cream of the crop competing in the next round.
“The winners of all the races will compete in the Swan Hill division finals, which will actually be held here in Kerang, and whoever wins the events in that will go on to the Loddon-Mallee finals,” Ms Ferrier said.
The divisional finals will take place on August 31.
Loddon house was crowned back-to-back winners, taking out the house shield 1095 points to 955 points.
