AT the height of Quambatook’s population decline, organisations, facilities and events roared on.
But silence filled the air on July 4 when another town servant, Trevor Bennett, died.
The town was still grieving after the sudden death of wife Norma almost a year ago, who equally gave all to the town of the edge of the Gannawarra Shire.
And when the district loses a long-time supporter and volunteer, it’s noticeable.
“Trevor was sadly missed at our Friday men’s breakfast the past two weeks,” friend Kelvin Jobling said.
Mr Bennett was a founding member and life member of the Quambatook Tractor Pullers Association and Heritage Machinery Association.
The Quambatook Caravan Park paid tribute on social media, describing Mr Bennett as a “quiet achiever” who “always had the community at heart”.
“Trevor was always only a few paces behind Norma in her commitment and involvement at the park,” the committee said.
“Trevor was a keen instigator of getting the bunk houses relocated to our park.”
A private funeral was held yesterday before a guard of honour tribute on Guthrie Street.
