Kurl’s dig at the head of news

NEW cars nowadays. On one car that a local mechanic was fixing, he explained that the wipers won’t work if the bonnet is up, which he remembered after a few attempts. That actually makes sense. You wouldn’t be able to see if the bonnet was up anyway, so why would you need to use the wipers?


Glen Millar and Legs (Leanne) dropped into Kerang a week ago to see a few old friends. Someone told me that Glen’s knee is knackered, as he has lost a yard or two.

The Rovers Football Netball Club Back to Reunion is still on. Robby Walsh and Terry Turvey are still on the job and the reunion is going to be held on that Melbourne Cup weekend – October 29 and 30, with the Cup on November 1.

There are most likely a lot of folks that haven’t been contacted as yet, so get the word out there.


It was noticed that Mat Chamberlain, the heart and soul of the Kerang Swan Hill Super Rules Rams, was doing some last minute recruiting prior to their match the other Sunday.

Chum had sent out a request to Adam Doyle, Chris Belz, Chris Fedke, Tim and Matt Shanahan, Craig Mathieson, Mick Pay, Kyle Gillingham, Rob Chamberlain, Shawn Filo, Simon Baker, Simon Tuohey, Simon Williams, Wayne Mitrovic, and Malcolm Borchard. Keep in mind they need a few on the bench for quick, essential rotations.

That’s a pretty good crew from back in the day, and now, in the super rules, you’d think that’d boost the team a bit.

As the team is made up of all natural footballers they don’t train, and it’s all about the social side any way.


A fair while back, Ian Wandin dug up his front lawn. Now that only means work, Chong.

Since he has put a lovely concrete path across the front of his place and done a few other jobs, but the lawn is still not in. The way it’s going, the lawn could be totally replaced with concrete. At least that’d save mowing old mate.


Kerang local Judy Guest has initiated Memories of Kerang on “Fakebook”, with the aim of collecting historical photos of Kerang shopping precinct so we don’t lose that history.

As many shops have come and gone, it is essential and interesting to record their existence.

Locals are keenly contributing and also many people from away who grew up in Kerang have joined the group.

The group isn’t really about school and family photos, but there has been some interesting stuff put up.

If you have any interesting historical photos of Kerang, join up and put them on so other members can enjoy them too.


Colin and Helen Granter have had their caravan packed and ready to go for some time now, waiting to hook up and head off. The only problem is that Colin keeps working.

The old bloke does a bit of driving here and there and obviously enjoys his work, but Helen is ready to get going at any time.


Hard-working editor Peter Bannan is doing a great job working remotely from his home in Melbourne.

He was up this way last week, but wouldn’t you think he’d come back and at least clean up his desk. But it’s strange that the Jimmy in his draw has disappeared.
