Some sporting contests can be pretty close, and there was one such close game in the local President’s Handicap Bowls at the Kerang club.

That bloomin’ Tunna Roberts snuck in and stole the victory from Marshall Rosewall with the very last bowl of the event. At least Marshall could say that he did nothing wrong to not gain the victory. (Maybe they should introduce body checking into bowls, Marshall?)

Well done Tunna.

Leitchville/Gunbower and Nondies Cohuna cricket clubs both had successful first seasons in the Goulburn Murray Cricket Association.

Nondies/Cohuna finished the A Grade season in sixth place and the Leitchville/Gunny lads were in eighth.

In the T20 competition LG were defeated in the Grand Final, so they would be happy with their season’s efforts.

The B Grade teams were down the list a bit finishing in 10th and 11th, but the Nondies Cohuna Under 16s finished the season in third.

On the test cricket, I’d be astonished if the Pakistani’s provide a wicket capable of producing a result in the third test. If they do, there is only one likely winner – us.

They seem happy to draw with the Aussies, after 24 years without us touring there. This does some good for the Pakistani batting averages, but nothing for their win loss frequency.

And the Melbourne Footy Club is back in town. Phfff. As if they ever left!

And what’s this about the Blues beating Richmond? It’s the first winning game that Patrick Cripps has played in against the Tiges.

Now settle down Rowdy – it’s only the first game.

While mentioning Steve Arthur (Rowdy), he is heavily involved with Bowls Australia, looking after 130 clubs in the Western Victorian area.

He covers all clubs between Bacchus Marsh, south along the coast and across to the SA border, up to Mildura and across to Wakool and Barham clubs.

Steve can assist clubs with increasing participation and retention with the sport, business planning and governance advice, grant submissions, accurate recording of participation and facilities data, increasing the quantity and quality of coaches and officials and assistance with programs such as Jack Attack, Rookie Rollers, BPL Cup and Sporting Schools.

Yep, the old fella is pretty busy, but always enough time to watch the Blues. All the best Rowdy

The duck season opened last Wednesday and there have been some good reports from shooters. Opening on the Wednesday may have kept a few shooters and protesters away for the opening day.

Kerang Cricket Club held its presentation evening at the Exchange Hotel last Thursday evening.

The club has come a long way in the past couple of years and will taste more success in the future.

Do banks still charge a fee on ‘insufficient funds’ when they know there is not enough?
