A POP-UP COVID-19 testing site has been set up in Balranald after fragments of the virus were detected in Balranald’s sewerage system.
Far West Local Health District chief executive Umit Agis said on Saturday that everyone in Balranald is urged to monitor for symptoms, and if they appear, immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
The sewerage was tested on Wednesday and Saturday’s positive detection is a first for the town.
Mr Agis said it was particularly worrying given Balranald’s vaccination rate was at 62 per cent.
“Significantly, this is the first time that we’ve had a positive sewerage detection in that particular area, and that is a major concern for us,” Mr Agis said.
“So please if you have any symptoms at all please come and get tested as soon as you’re able.”
Mr Agis is encouraging everyone to get their first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The pop-up clinic will be open daily from 10am to 4pm.
Far West LHD is calling on anyone with the following cold or flu-like symptoms to get tested immediately: fever, sore throat, cough, headache, or shortness of breath, is urged to immediately get tested.
Those with mild symptoms they should look out for are fatigue, new muscle aches or pains, a change in taste or smell or a new runny nose, are also encouraged to get tested.
The health service has also confirmed that of two cases recently reported, one was a false negative, and the other has recovered.
