KERANG GOLF
ANOTHER week closer to the start of pennant bowls in our area, with arrangements for our opening day to be held next Sunday well in hand.
Members have been asked to indicate their availability by putting their information on the sheets on the noticeboard so hopefully that has been done.
Our intrepid northern travellers, president Jimmy and Sonia, together with Frank and Lorraine, have arrived back in time to take their place.
The format for opening day will be social bowls to be played after the official opening by president Jimmy.
As is the case with official events, it will be a uniform day if you have one.
Peter Niall will also have the club booklets available on opening day.
Not long after our first day in uniform for the season, we will travel to Lake Boga for our annual practice match on the Friday public holiday before the AFL grand final.
Teams will be selected and members advised by SMS.
Saturday pennant commences on October 12, with midweek to commence on the following Wednesday.
Last Thursday a great turn-out of members and visitors played a game of three-bowl triples, with the winners having a margin of 17 shots over their opponents, winning both games.
David Randell, Ian Fasham (Barham) and Trevor Linton took home the major prize, with the ever-reliable Laurie Gray teaming with Marlene Rason and Rob “Curly” Curtis to win the runners-up spoils with 14 shots up in their two wins.
Chocolates to Rosie Laughlin, Lorraine Douglass and Dave Wood.
Sunday bowls was again enjoyed by members who had two games of pairs.
At the completion, there was only one two-game winner, Laurie Gray(again) and Neil Paul.
Runners-up were Noel Robertson and Rob “Curly” Curtis.
Chocolates to Bernie Beck and Mick Pors.
Still plenty of activity around the greens with the new concrete for the ditches at the north end being painted and new synthetic grass being put in place.
Also, if time permits, the shelters on the office-gazebo end will be replaced before pennant starts.
If you have a bit of spare time, head out and give the tireless workers under Alan Hird and Laurie Gray’s guidance a hand.
Don’t forget to put your names on the entry sheets for all the men’s club events as well as the club fours, which will be played under a new format.
Also, on our first night of pennant we will be heading to our sponsor, the Royal Hotel, for a meal and hopefully a celebration or two.
Add names to the sheet on the noticeboard to indicate you are attending.
Twilight triples barefoot will commence on Wednesday evening, October 16.
