Lake Boga master class from slalom world champ Joel Howley

LAKE Boga Water Ski Club (LBWSC) is set to sizzle this summer with a host of events planned including a two-day coaching clinic with world champion slalom skier Joel Howley.

Originally hailing from Donald, Howley is based in Brisbane and will make the trek to Lake Boga to coach the clinic on December 5 and 6.

With an impressive resume, he won the world title for men’s slalom skiing at the world championships in Malaysia in 2019 and is the Australian record holder.

He has finished on the podium multiple times at the Moomba Masters tournament on the Yarra River.

Slalom enthusiasts will have the chance to pick up some tips and spectators will be entertained with a demonstration by Howley, who is ranked No.4 in the world

The clinic is open to all ages and abilities.

LBWSC tournament skiing and coaching director Toby Gilmour said Howley’s visit was just one of many events the club had planned since rebranding last year.

“We have just purchased our own 700m slalom course and we’re hoping to hold a come-and-try day prior to Joel’s visit,” he said.

“The slalom course was funded with the assistance of a VicHealth Active Clubs grant and will be installed in the designated zone just north of the ski club.

“As soon as the weather warms up and COVID-19 restrictions lift, the course will be available to our ski club members.”

Howley’s clinic is open and inquiries can be made through the club’s Facebook page or by emailing lbwsc19@gmail.com.
