INTERNATIONAL Day for People with Disability was marked at the Kerang Golf Club last week with food, fun, games and presentations.
The Vivid Work Crew has been busy in recent weeks and was pleased to take time off for the social event.
With orders for 22,000 painted survey pegs and 1200 decorated cupcake casings to fill, the team has been working hard and was ready for some recreation.
It was Vivid’s first visit to the Kerang Golf Course, where putting and driving activities set up by the club, proved popular.
Other activities included quoits and horseshoe throwing games, which the group tried their hand at, before sitting down to a barbecue lunch.
Around 40 people attended the celebration, which was organised by Mallee Sports Assembly, the Gannawarra Shire Council and employment agency CVGT Australia.
The event also saw medals, which were donated by Sportspower Kerang, presented to participants, with Gannawarra Shire Council mayor Lorraine Learmonth presenting them.
International Day of People with Disability, which has been celebrated since 1992, aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Australia’s 2019 Patron for International Day of People with Disability, New South Wales athlete Kurt Fearnley, said the day provided an opportunity for Australians to start a conversation about disability and promote accessibility in their communities.
“People with disability are entitled to the same respect, independence and choice as other Australians,” Mr Fearnley said.
“We need to talk honestly about the barriers in society and how we can remove them.”
Organiser Rhonda Allan, of the Mallee Sports Assembly, said the Kerang celebration was very successful.
“It was a great opportunity for all sectors from the community to come together and acknowledge and celebrate the importance of this annual event,” Ms Allan said.
Vivid crew member Brad Wolfe spoke for the group when he agreed.
“We’ve had a great time,” Mr Wolfe said.
