Thursday Golf
For those of us who are rich and retired, Thursday golf was a good day weather wise for the 19 players who participated.
If people were surprised by Poddy’s (Alan Free) win last Thursday, well sit down while you read this, because he won again, this time with 40 points.
We welcomed visitors from Trentham and Murrabit.
After recording 47 points last Saturday, Jim Apostolelis came back to earth yesterday with his new handicap.
A good field had plenty of practice for the big weekend ahead for Kerang Golf Club.
The nearest the pins went to Don Ross on the 3rd, our president T Turvey on the 5th, Poddy on the 9th who finished it off with a birdie, Rob Fabry on the 13th, and James Coolahan on the 16th.
In the ball pool was Joe Tartaglia 39pts, Terry Turvey 39pts and Ken Williams 38pts on a countback from Geoff Williams, the Emu (P Lloyd) and Simon Shanks.
Visual Appeal Friday
On a very blustery day, one of the windiest at our course for quite a while, a good field of 60 golfers came out to enjoy the challenge.
We played under a format that most haven’t played for a considerable time.
The theme was football colours, and judging by the comments that have come back to the club, a very enjoyable day was had by all.
Looking at some of the cards that came back, a few would like to play this more often as Rosie Laughlin had 45pts, Ross Nesbit had 48pts, but poor John Hewitt couldn’t get a grip on the wind and only had 24pts, which didn’t please his partners too much.
Winners on the day were Gav Teasdale, Shane Dibsdale and Blake Shay with a combined score of 125pts.
Runner-up was the team of Gary Thorne, Ross Nesbit and Pam Twiss with 124pts.
The best dressed award went to Forrest, Jennay and Rosie Laughlin and the all-important pens went to Chris Gray, Joel Gray and Andrew Lindsay.
Nearest the pins were: John Ackland on the 3rd, Snowy Hall on the 5th, Chris Bland on the 9th, Don Ross on the 13th and Red Manners on the 16th.
Gold Watch
Twenty five pairs played off for the 2019 Wishart’s Jewellers Gold Watch on Sunday, with players from Lalbert, Pyramid, Bendigo, Barham, Berriwillock and Belvoir Park.
It was very close at the top, but the eventual winners were Kerang’s favourite odd couple in Snowy Hall and John Murphy, with the pair scoring a very handy 49pts to win from the visitors from Pyramid in Andrew Freemantle and Brett Dye on 48pts.
Third and fourth went to Geoff Williams and Ron Schultze 45pts and John Dee and Shane Wharton also 45pts.
Nearest the pins went to: Shane Wharton (3rd), Ron Thouliss (5th), Ross Nesbit (9th), Brett Dye (13th) and Terry Turvey (16th).
Other prizes went to Jarrad Walker (longest drive), Scott Meehan (nearest the pin, second shot on the 8th), and nearest the line was Poddy Free.
Our annual tournament is October 17, 19 and 20 and the club championships start on October 26, so good golfing everyone and we hope to see you on the course next weekend.

Final round of singles championships
The winner of the Kerang Golf Club Ladies Singles Championship was decided on the first play-off hole.
Michelle Dillon and Olive Spitty were tied, with a score of 249 after 3 rounds.
Going into the second nine holes, Olive had a slight advantage, but a 10 on the 14th did some damage.
It went down to the wire, with both needing to hole putts on the 19th hole (1st hole). Michelle holed a long putt and put pressure on Olive, who missed hers.
In the B grade, Joyce Boyd continued her run of good form to win by 8 shots from Marg Learmonth.
Joyce led by 6 shots after the second round.
In the C grade, Deanee Henderson also continued her good form to win by 15 shots from Ronda Boulton.
Deanee had an 11 shot advantage after the second round.
The Alma Brown Memorial Trophy was also played for and the winner was Meryl Cameron.
