THE artwork of a Macorna Football Netball Club parent featured prominently during the opening night of this year’s Australian Football League season.
Kylie Rowe’s design won a Good Sports alcohol and drug education program competition and featured on Richmond’s banner as the reigning premiers ran onto the Melbourne Cricket Ground last Thursday night.
A large contingent of junior footballers and family members from the Golden Rivers Football Netball League club were in attendance, with some forming the guard of honour for the Tigers players to run through.
“All of us were exhausted on the Friday, but the group had an absolute ball,” Rowe said.
“The grins on the kids’ faces was something you could not buy.”
The experience was even more special for Sam Whinfield and Mason Cordwell, who led Richmond onto the ground before the Tigers’ opening round encounter against Carlton.
“I’ve always had a passion for art, so to see my work feature in front of 90,000 people was great, not only for myself, but for the opportunity for the kids,” Rowe said.
