Gap to widen?

NONDIES and Cohuna United face the difficult challenge of opening up a three-win gap between themselves and fifth-placed Northern District Cricket Association side, Barham/Koondrook tomorrow.

With the border team observing the bye this weekend, both Cohuna Recreation Reserve-based teams will need to reverse their round one performances to keep on track for a finals berth.

The match of the round will be at Gunbower, where Nondies takes on defending premiers, Leitchville/Gunbower.

The visitors went down to Wandella last weekend, whilst tomorrow’s hosts were too strong for Barham/Koondrook.

The defending premiers won by 33 runs when the teams met in round one, with Sam Colvin and James Keath proving to be the difference back on October 14.

Leitchville/Gunbower boasts numerous batting and bowling options that will help secure a fourth win of the season, whilst Nondies pair, Rhys and Will Thrum will be looking to continue on their form from last weekend.

Meanwhile, United will look to snap a 12-match losing streak against Wandella, with the side refreshed after last weekend’s bye.

Isaac Hogan was prolific both in the Bombers’ win last weekend and when the sides met in round one, whilst Daniel Cooke and Logan Spittal will aim to replicate their performances from 13 days ago when United defeated Leitchville/Gunbower.

Top sides to meet

THE Northern District Cricket Association’s top four sides will all meet tomorrow, with the result to reshape the ladder at the end of the first third of the season.

Leitchville/Gunbower will aim to bounce back from its first loss of the season last weekend when the sides hosts the undefeated Nondies.

Barham/Koondrook was too strong for the competition’s southernmost team six days ago, whilst Nondies defeated Wandella Warriors.

Meanwhile, defending premiers, Wandella will host the border side in what shapes to be one of the matches of the weekend.

The Bombers have won their past three games, whilst Barham/Koondrook has the same number of wins in season 2017/18.

In the final match of the round, Cohuna United will look to record its first win of the season when the side hosts Wandella Warriors.

United is already three wins outside the top four, whilst the Warriors have not won since their opening round win against Kerang Fairley Town.
