Day out for Leila

LITTLE Leila Neville enjoyed a day out at the park on Sunday.

She was joined by a couple of hundred other people, intent on ensuring that the four-year-old and her family had community support for the challenges ahead.

Leila, the second daughter of Bendigo and former Kerang couple, Ryan and Tara Neville [nee Manuel] was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year.

Yesterday, one day after the community rallied for a family day at Riverside Park which is set to raise thousands of dollars for the family, the youngster was re-admitted to the Royal Children’s Hospital for the next phase of her scheduled treatment, which will last many more months.

Family friend, Jan Harry organised the family day.

She was overwhelmed by the support.

“I can’t believe there are so many people here,” she said.

“So many people have donated; it’s just fantastic.

Proceeds from a raffle and silent auction are still being tallied.

There was plenty of food, numerous attractions for the children, musical entertainment and shaded areas for families and friends to gather and chat.

Mr Neville said that his family was overwhelmed by the support.

“I don’t know how we can thank people enough,” he said.
