Shoot win a surprise

A LOCAL teenager whose only association with shooting is through representing his school took out a major regional competition last week.

Kerang Technical High School year 11 student, Adam Gardiner won the senior non-member boys section at the Minyip Field and Game School Shoot, held on October 17.

In his second appearance at the competition, the 17-year-old hit 18 out of 24 targets to claim the competition – eclipsing the efforts from his first appearance at the event, when he hit six targets.

“I was surprised with the result, especially because of the result the first time I attend the event,” he said.

Gardiner regularly competes at school level, with these appearances his only chance to take part in the sport.

“Shooting is a lot of fun, as it is not based on a player’s fitness,” he said.

Fellow competitors, Will Archard and Jye Galway hit six out of 24 targets in the junior competition – a high score considering the windy conditions each of the 400-plus students had to endure.
