Big days ahead

ONE of the biggest celebrations of Cohuna’s attractions is underway.

The eight-day Big Cohuna Festival began last night with the premiere of St Mary’s Cohuna’s production, The Music Within.

The performance, which continues tonight at the Cohuna Memorial Hall, is one of more than 20 events occurring up to next Thursday, when the Cohuna District Hospital Auxiliary’s Oaks Day luncheon wraps up proceedings.

In a first for the event, Gannawarra Shire Council will unite with community organisations, sporting groups, schools, and local businesses to make the most of the Melbourne Cup Day weekend.

There will be something on offer for all interests, from sport and well-being, art, food and family-friendly attractions.

One of the largest events will occur tomorrow night at Garden Park, with Cohuna Consolidated School holding its Creekside Fair and the popular Duck Derby.

Other highlights include an open day at the Cohuna Fire Brigade tomorrow, a market and Catch a Carp day at Garden Park on Sunday, and farm and forest tours throughout Monday.
