CMFNL – Battle of the Kangaroos

THE Cohuna Kangas will aim to surpass their 2015 Central Murray Football Netball League record with a victory tomorrow against the winless Balranald.

The Kangas’ faint finals hopes received a blow last weekend thanks to an 83-point loss to Woorinen, whilst Balranald lost to the Mallee Eagles by 32 points, despite boasting the talents of former Western Bulldogs player, Lindsay Gilbee and Geelong premiership player, Nathan Ablett.

In what will be a big day for the Kangas, who are celebrating Cohuna’s 1986 premiership success, Rick Easton’s men will aim to inflict Balranald’s 15th consecutive loss.

The Kangas won by 81 points when these sides met in round three, with Easton and Rhys Bradley prolific.

Bradley’s duel with Raven Jolliffe in the midfield will be pivotal to the result, whilst Easton will need to contend with Ben Fuller to have an impact on the scoreboard.

The home side’s cause will be boosted if Gilbee – who kicked three goals in last weekend’s loss – doesn’t make the trip down to Cohuna, which will leave Kaleb O’Flaherty to deal with Kobe Lloyd in Balranald’s forward line.

The Kangas’ Ben Archard should be too strong for Jarryd Stead in the ruck duel, whilst the home team’s blend of youth and experience will help secure a fifth win of the season.

PREDICTION: The Cohuna Kangas will win by 50 points.
