A new tune

MUSIC time at Glenarm will have better clarity thanks to the donation of a new piano.

The family and friends group linked with the Kerang District Health aged care facility officially handed over the new instrument on Tuesday.

The new piano is a significant upgrade on one previously used at the old facility, which residents vacated from earlier this year.

“The old piano at the old site was untenable, and we were presented with another one and that was also untenable,” Glenarm’s activities co-ordinator, Toni Kilderry said.

“The family and friends group then approached us, saying that they could buy a new piano for us.”

The group raised the $6850 needed to purchase the new piano through Christmas raffles and its barbecue held in conjunction with the Kerang Book Parade.

Visiting performers – such as Terry Carter and Graham Golding, who helped with the presentation – will be able to use the piano.

Residents will also be able to use the new instrument, something Barb Salter has undertaken since its arrival.

Mrs Salter regularly spends between 30 minutes and one hour a day playing the piano, with residents joining in for a sing-along.

“It is just so gratifying to watch Barb play the piano, as it is good for her self-esteem,” Ms Kilderry said.
