THE Cohuna Kangas will aim to break an eight-year run of losses against Kerang tomorrow in the only Central Murray Football Netball League match involving local sides.
With Koondrook/Barham having the bye alongside Lake Boga and the Mallee Eagles, the Kangas-Blues encounter will be the match of the round in the district.
Both sides recorded victories last weekend. Kerang defeated the Mallee Eagles by 42 points to remain undefeated this season, whilst the Kangas won by 81 points against Balranald.
The Kangas relished the freedom Balranald enabled Rick Easton’s men to produce six days ago, with Easton and Damien Boyer benefiting in front of goal.
However, this freedom will not occur tomorrow against a team that is renowned for shutting its opponents down and attacking when needed.
Rhys Bradley, Marcus Rogers and Kokwam Niki will need to play at their absolute best to dominate against a Kerang midfield consisting renowned match winners.
Ryan Gillingham, Bradlee Pay and Troy Coates know when to attack or slow the game down, and can be unstoppable when linking with Troy Davis – who faces a ruck duel with Chris Anderson tomorrow.
Easton will need to win his match-up with Mark Walter to give the home side any hope of winning, with Harrison Keely, Shaun McIvor and Kaleb O’Flaherty needing to stop Luke Cotchett, Jarryd Pertzel and Troy Thamm from dominating in front of the visitors’ goal.
Kerang defeated the Kangas by 67 points in the sole meeting between the clubs in 2015. Another one-sided affair is on the cards tomorrow.
PREDICTION: Kerang will win by 60 points.
