WITH the local cricket grand final being played on the weekend of March 15, it was interesting that Nyah’s up-and-coming young cricketer, Max Thompson was not permitted to play due to his commitment to the Bendigo Pioneers.
I find this ridiculous to the highest degree. As a footy coach you would think that it would be better for a youngster to experience a cricket grand final with teammates in the team atmosphere than to play a footy practice match.
I realise the Pioneers want the kids to show their commitment to the game, but if they didn’t know if the kid was a chance to make the grade at this stage of the year, then they aren’t doing their job properly. Often they stop a kid playing in a grand final then cut him anyway. Don’t think that Thommo will get cut though.
BARHAM-Koondrook played in the local cricket grand final but things didn’t go as they’d hoped. Nyah were just too good.
Chasing a big score, Lance Davidson and Hayden Solar got them off to a pretty good start with Lance playing a couple of nice pull shots. One, especially off what should have been called a no ball, was efficiently dispatched. Both Warren Lolicato and Lachlan ‘Chicken’ Laursen also batted well but they needed lots more runs quickly and although ‘Chicken’ got his 45 from 29 balls, he needed to bat quite a bit longer for the team to get home.
All in all it was a great season from the Barham-Koondrook lads and hopefully they celebrated as they deserved to.
Danny Lolicato was at both the Semi and Grand Finals supporting his younger brothers. Wonder if there is any chance that he could commit to the team for next year? A longer catch-up would have been good Danny.
Could play a bit in his day.
GREAT effort from all concerned with the Kerang Soccer Club fielding an under-12 team in the soccer tournament in Bendigo on the weekend.

HAWTHORN coach Sam Mitchell has gone in to bat for Carlton Coach Michael Voss. Good on him. That’ll help.
Now Voss has made a call to arms to the Blues supporters to get behind the team and be loud at the Hawthorn match (played Thursday). Is he trying to deflect attention from himself?
I’m not one to say the Blues need to change the coach. They just need better players – recruiting. All players are rated way too high – and Kurl has said this before. They have some exceptional stars, but the ones filling the other spaces are not good enough. Yep, they are all great footballers but are they up to the standard required to win a flag? I think not. Essendon will win one before the Blues do.
Lost to the Hawks and still seems they are pretty happy with their efforts.
Following the game closely, it was interesting to note that kicks off the ground were counted as stats for Motlop, but not for Cripps,(he had one).
That gave Motlop eight kicks and seven handballs at 57 per cent efficiency and 87 fantasy points. Four off the ground indicates he doesn’t want to bend and pick it up. Yep, I’m not a fan.
Cripps with 12 kicks and 17 handballs with 88 fantasy points. I know whose game I’d prefer by a bit more than one point.
Even though my team is losing, it’s great to have footy back.
THE TV was on and as I walked past, I thought, “I know that face”.
It was former Koondrook-Barham legend Brent Guerra on Tipping Point Battle of the Codes last week. Sorry, I say former but he is ‘still’ a Koondrook Barham legend.
The former Port, St Kilda and Hawthorn star won a few thousand dollars and wants to head off to Bali.
FOR two of the astronauts that returned to earth and landed in the Gulf of America, their eight-day space mission turned into a 286-day-sojourn. They landed off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida. Didn’t some jump off a bridge there years ago?
Just Googled “America” and the map still has it as the Gulf of Mexico. Couldn’t find one that said Gulf of America.
Would have thought that should be organised by now if they are serious about changing the name.
URBAN sprawl has been cited as the cause for so many kangaroos in suburbia. Think it could be a reason but an increase in roo population would have nothing to do with it.
It’s interesting to take an early morning drive through local towns. You can be guaranteed to see foxes and rabbits and the occasional roo has been spotted in the Kerang township also.
CAUGHT up with old mate Gorge Fenton the other day and was obviously after some information for the Komment. As George said, he hasn’t been anywhere to see anyone, so he had no news.
George is another poor soul who support Carlton.
