Perfect conditions for bowls

Cohuna

ON a perfect day for the end of autumn, 38 bowlers turned out to enjoy social bowls which was held on Wednesday as an exception last week.

The grey nomads are on the roll again, with many stopping off in Cohuna and filling in their time with a game or two of bowls.

We welcomed visitors from Mildura and Wonthaggi as well as those closer to home from Cohuna Golf and Pyramid Hill.

With 51 points, as the best of three two-game winners were the team of Greg Beck, Jean Sutherland, Peter van Der Zande and Ursula Kirby.

Congratulations on very good bowling.

This Tuesday it’s back to Tuesday for midweek social bowls.

On Saturday the format for social bowls was two games each of 10 ends, with 40 bowlers really enjoying the glorious weather for the start of winter.

It won’t stay that way for much longer so it was great to see good numbers making the most of the sunshine while it lasts.

The winning team comprised the sensational siblings Trevor Dehne and Barb Hilderbrand, who were ably assisted by Marilyn Flinders and Sue Burgess.

We welcomed first-time bowlers in Noah, Jack and Jacob and hope they enjoyed their day.

Next weekend a group of hopefuls travel to Deniliquin for the annual bowls tournament and we wish them every success.

A good time will be had, for sure.

For those wishing to play at home next Saturday the contact for entries is president Steve on 0429 029 089.

Congratulations to the winners of the very generous vouchers donated to our club by cluBarham.

The prizewinners were drawn on Saturday after social bowls and included Ken McGlone, Zollie Hooper, Cheryl Cooke, Richard Flinders and Jenni Phillips.

Congratulations to all winners and a huge thank you to all who supported this raffle.

Kerang

THE stage was set for Black Duck Social Triples Tuesday with 42 players taking part on what was a nice winter afternoon.

Anticipation gripped all and sundry with the outcome of the day.

After 26 ends of fierce competition the winners of the day were J. Wilson, K. Pay and G. Charles with two good wins for +11 against some stiff opposition.

The largest winning margin for the second game went to K. Watts, M. Theobald and R. McKerrow.

After approximately 10 months of Black Duck play the jackpot still remains unclaimed and swells to $1131.

This is a point of interesting conversation around town, such is the profile it and the club are gaining.

If you would like a chance of taking it out, enter via the sheet in the clubrooms or simply ring the club on 5452 1194 before 11am to enter.

You wouldn’t want to miss the day it does go off, would you?

It could be your purse/wallet that gets heavier.

If you have something of interest for this column, feel free to pass the information on to the club scribe for publication.
