AS many of you know, the Cohuna Community Bus has been a vital part of our community for more than 20 years.
Recently the ownership and operation of the bus has changed, and it is now under the control of the local incoporated committee.
The committee has worked with Kerry Anderson, a consultant, to better understand our community’s needs and how the bus can be used more effectively.
The report from this consultation is being considered, and some changes are already being implemented.
One of the first steps will be replacing the 18-year-old bus with a newer one that includes a lifting device for older people, and establishing a booking service to improve accessibility.
In a new development, the committee has decided to offer a trial service next month, providing transportation to Kerang and back every Wednesday.
This will be an excellent opportunity for community members to access banking services and engage with various organisations in Kerang.
The bus will depart from Memorial Hall in Cohuna. Bookings can be made at the Neighbourhood House on Market Street.
The cost will be minimal, and the committee will cover any additional expenses to support this trial run.
We encourage those who have expressed interest in such an opportunity to participate, and we are working with other organisations in Cohuna to ensure that those who cannot drive have access to transportation for their appointments.
Volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining the bus’ operations, and we welcome community members interested in becoming volunteer drivers or administrators.
The committee is committed to providing a well-maintained bus and excellent service to the community, and we believe that this presents an opportunity for various community groups to benefit from the bus.
We look forward to seeing community members take advantage of the Kerang trips to address personal matters that cannot be handled in Cohuna, such as banking.
