RABBIT Buster Month is on again in the Kerang District, and the North Central Catchment Management Authority is geared up.
It is offering a one-for-one rabbit bait deal for Landcare groups or landholders in the Kerang Lakes region, and staging a free presentation night to help broadacre farmers manage the invasive species.
“The Kerang Lakes includes a number of internationally significant and protected wetlands, and we work with the Victorian Government to help protect them,” North Central CMA project manager Amy Russell said.
“A key part of that protection is pest management. We partner with land managers and assist local farmers with rabbit control programs to enhance the wetlands and help protect sensitive cultural sites.
“We’re offering locals with an Agriculture Chemical Users Permit a deal on a range of bait products to continue that work and help them keep on top of their rabbit control. It’s basically buy one, get one free on us.”
To order from a selection of bait products, call the CMA on 5448 7124 or email kayla.archibald@nccma.vic.gov.au.
The Victorian Rabbit Action Network’s Tim Bloomfield will be the guest speaker at the Kerang Golf Club from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, February 22.
“If you would like to learn more about how to manage rabbits on your property, Tim will showcase simple techniques that will stop rabbits eating your crops for decades,” Ms Russell said.
A light supper will be provided.
