SHDCA Round 3: Jonty ton sinks Raiders

ST MARY’S TYNTYNDER v BARHAM KOONDROOK

A compelling century from Jonty Chaproniere has helped St Mary’s Tyntynder maintain top spot on the SHDCA A grade ladder, after defeating Barham Koondrook by 43-runs.

Chaproniere proved unstoppable in his first game against the league’s newest side, with the aggressive opening batsman hammering 129 from just 107 balls, which included six sixes and seven boundaries in his match winning knock.

After scoring his first 50 runs off 58 balls, Chaproniere let loose soon after, racing to his century just 30 balls later. He was eventually dismissed in the 36th over by Chameera Akurugoda, who was the best of the bowlers with three wickets.

While Chaproniere was the hero in the Bulldogs total of 4-233, he wasn’t the only contributor, with Connor Power (28) and Jake Foster (21) providing strong support with the bat.

Needing to score at close to a run a ball, Barham Koondrook made a commendable, but ultimately unsuccessful attempt at chasing down the mammoth total. They were eventually dismissed with just two balls remaining for 190.

After a slow start left them teetering at 4-32, Barham Koondrook’s middle order of Warren Lolicato (51), Jamie Strong (45) and Lachlan Laursen (25) produced a strong fight back. Charlie King (4-56 off eight overs) and Robin Sebastian (3-12 off eight overs) did the bulk of the damage for St Mary’s Tyntynder with the ball.
