THURSDAY bowls continues with 16 members and visitors enjoying a game at Kerang Golf last week. Just for a change, the game of the day was Fours and after the two completed games, there were no two-game winners, so a win and a loss was good enough to collect the major prize.
That team was Lorraine Ritchie, Sonia McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Allison Medson, who finished nine up after a big win in their second game. There was a tie for the runners-up prize, between Frank Ritchie’s rink and Jim McLeish’s. The encouragement chocolates went to Rob Malseed’s team.
On Saturday, with a few missing, mainly all the Division 2 Midweek Premiership team, who were continuing their celebrations out at Lake Charm, we only had six players who participated in three games of three bowl triples, with each playing as a lead, a second and as a skip.
The combination of Laurie Gray, John Duckworth and Rob “Curly” Curtis were the winners, using the points system.
News from the Lake Charm crew were mainly around the absentees. Allison had to tend to her “kids” and Joycey had to leave early to “babysit” her daughter’s dogs at Chinkapook. All the others had a great time, but what happens on the trip, stays on the trip, so not a lot of info coming forward.
Please note – social bowls continues each Thursday and, until the local footy starts, on Saturdays. It will revert to Sundays on our presentation day.
Our members have been attending local tournaments and the McLeishes were runners-up at Leitchville’s Dye Brothers Triples. Other members have been to Calivil and Pyramid Hill, and the past weekend to Gunbower and St Arnaud. No reports of wins from any of the team members, but Aldo won some pork spare ribs in the raffle at Gunbower, courtesy of Gunpork, one of their sponsors.
Our presentation day will be held on Sunday, April 16, with bowls to commence at 1pm, with presentations after bowls in the clubhouse with an afternoon tea provided. All members are encouraged to attend – please put your names on the noticeboard if you are coming and also if you can help with providing the afternoon tea.
Anzac Day is fast approaching, so it is time to organise your team for our annual Anzac Day Triples, with proceeds to Legacy, after a pie and soup lunch. Names to Aldo (0407 310762) or on the sheet on the noticeboard.
Before that, the Kerang Easter Tournament is scheduled for all days of Easter. Please support our neighbouring club, as they are great supporters of our events. The events are Pairs on Good Friday, Triples on Saturday and Sunday and their Greenwood Fours Star Day on Easter Monday. There are fliers on the noticeboard in the gazebo for members wanting more info.
