Cohuna Bowls Club Annual Autumn Tournament returns

THE highly popular Cohuna Bowls Club Annual Autumn Tournament returns this weekend, with the club welcoming players from all over the state.

The action kicks off on Friday with a warm-up pairs tournament before the main show on the weekend with the Fours tournament.

CBC secretary Bryan Main said it’s going to be a massive weekend.

“It’s our biggest event of the year,” he said.

“Our three rinks are full, and we had to knock back entries this year, so it’s very pleasing to see the tournament is very popular with the players.”

Players will be coming from far and wide, including 28 from Horsham and teams from Castlemaine, Bendigo, Echuca, Maldon, Murtoa, Moonee Ponds and Essendon.

Teams play five games over two days.

Main said local teams are a good chance of taking out the $2,000 first place prize and $1,200 runners-up, but they’ll face stiff competition.

“It’s a good quality tournament – the Bendigo boys are division one players, and Horsham are bringing a solid contingent, so there will be some good players on display,” he said.

“However, Leitchville won it last year, and we’ve got a couple of good squads from Cohuna Golf Bowls Club and our own club, so hopefully, the locals can perform well.”

The club will be hosting a barbecue dinner on Friday night.
