HUNDREDS of homes in Gannawarra Shire have been turned into islands, with the only way out by boat.
Most go to sleep anxious about whether the foot of the bed will be submerged the next morning.
Koroop residents Suesan Kearns and partner Bryce Mimmo believe the water is deeper than 2011 around their Koroop Road property, near Hulke Road.
“It’s completely different as they are letting water out of Kow Swamp into the Pyramid Creek and this is where it’s ending up.”
“It’s devastating and could have been prevented with proper management of drains and waterways.”
A watch-and-act alert remains in place for properties along Pyramid Creek.
“Further rises are expected downstream from Milnes Bridge to Kerang over the next three to six days,” the VicEmergency warning said on Sunday.
Ms Kearns said it was “exhausting” trying to save the house from going under water, like it did 11 years ago.
“The battle is huge,” she said. “Crops gone, 500 bales of hay as well as the shearing shed.”
“At this stage the house is just hanging on by the levee bank that (Bryce) has spent weeks building.
The couple grow grain and oaten hay, with cattle and sheep on dry ground on the farm.
“All the furniture is piled high. Add to that dealing with the stagnant, rancid water, mosquitoes and snakes.
“We’ve had to relocate our kelpies, it’s just not safe.”
