Cohuna Lions Memorial Park open

MORE than 30 people joined past and present Cohuna Lions and Leos to celebrate the opening of the Lions Memorial Park.

Located on Cullen Street in Cohuna, the area has been transformed by members of the Cohuna Lions over the past few months, led by project coordinator Robert Shanahan.

“It started when we got a grant from the Gannawarra Shire, which we are very thankful for, to kick the process off,” Mr Shanahan said.

“It wasn’t a very good looking piece of land, so we stripped it back and planted some plants and put down so rocks.

“Give it two or three years and it will look pretty good.”

Gannawarra Shire Council councillor Garner Smith officiated at the opening alongside Lions zone chairperson Jeanette Cowan.

The garden commemorates all deceased members of the Cohuna Lions Club, while also celebrating 75 years of service by Lions clubs across Australia.

The Cohuna Lions Club will also be celebrating 60 years of service to their community in December this year, with the community invited to a free party at Apex Park on December 4.
