One point separates first six golfers

Kerang

Thursday Golf

On a fine and as normal, windy, November day, 23 R & R golfers, including a couple of younger fellows, graced our greens for a great day of golf.

In a very even day of golf, one point separated the first six players.

After all countbacks were done, Graham Wyte (14) was declared the winner on 36 points, with the other three players on 36 making up the ball pool, those being Greg Gin (16), Gary Thorne (7) and Allan Free (17).

Twilight Golf

Twilight golf for all comers on a Tuesday night began last week with 21 players turning up.

Twilight is for anyone who wants to have a hit, you don’t need a handicap to play and it is a good introduction to golf and the golf club for those people thinking of taking up the game.

The winners in the golfers section were Curly Doyle with a net 33.5, Logan Keighran 34.5, Chris Gray 37.5 and Allan Free 38.5.

In the non-golfers section, winners were Jesse Tilburn net 37, on a countback from Brian Murphy also on 37, and Jordan Simpson 38 net.

Nearest the pin on 13 was John Murphy, with longest drive going to Brad Short and nearest the line to Jesse Tilburn.

Saturday Golf

On one of our best days for golf in a long time, we had a nice field of over 40 golfers hit the course.

One of our irregular golfers, Luke Hadfield (16), had a great round of 41 points to win the Greenwood Mugge for the next few weeks.

In the ball pool, we had Graham Wyte (14) 40, Chris Gray (17) 39, Mark Henderson (34) Meryl Cameron (15), Gray Thorne (7) all on 38 points, Red Manners (9) and Gary Pay (17) on 37.

Our ladies winner was, after probably her best round of golf, Deaniee Henderson (28) on 41 points.

On Sunday, we have our Lachie 4BBB, with a barbecue from 11.30am and 12.30pm hit-off.

This day is in remembrance of Ian Laughlin, who was probably the finest golfer this district has produced.

McLardyMcShaneClark 4person Ambrose is on December 8, and as ambroses are always popular, you need to get your names in early.

Kerang ladies

We had eight ladies play par on a warmish day, with Michelle Dillon finishing square in front of Lorraine Bray on one down.

Meryl Cameron and Mandy Ackland were both two down, nearest the pin Chino’s was Joyce Boyd with her shot of the day, and nearest the pin June’s 3rd was Meryl Cameron.

The much sought after pen award was won by Jill Marshall.

Next week is a 9am hit off.

It’s also the start of our three putt club, so you might need to bring an extra $1.

The course is looking great, so well done to everyone involved in its preparation.

Northern

District Veterans

The Northern District Veterans stableford event was held at Tooleybuc on Tuesday.

Due to a shortage of water, the fairways were dry, but the greens were in great condition thanks to Kane and his helpers.

Thanks Lois for lunch and Tracka for your help.

Ladies winner was Beth Robbins on 44 points, runner-up with 39 points was Lorraine Bray.

Mens A grade winner was captain Graham Wyte on 43 points, while runner-up was Ian Dodd on 39 points.

Mens B grade winner was Vern Morrish on 43 points, Tony McDonald was runner-up on 39 points.

Ball pool: Eilene Farrar, Nona Wilson, Don Ross, David Wilkinson, Greg Gin and Joe Tartaglia.

Nearest the pins: Eilene Farrah, Nona Wilson, Jean Youl, Greg Gin, Tony McDonald, Graham Wyte and Ian Dodd.
