Students’ brave shave

TWO Cohuna teenagers will spend the coming months regrowing their hair for a good cause.

Cohuna Secondary College year 11 students, Josie Gloster and Meg Roberts had their heads shaved during a ceremony last Thursday, with the pair raising around $1800 for the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave initiative.

It took around 10 minutes for local hairdresser, Catrina Robinson to chop the locks of each girl, with a large group of students watching on for support.

“I had wanted to shave off my hair for charity for a really long time but I was really scared of doing it by myself,” Miss Gloster said.

“The shave was for a good cause, and the fact it was raising money for cancer research meant it was a good thing to do,” Miss Roberts said.

The college played a role in supporting the shave – which aimed to raise funds to not only assist with supporting research to prevent blood cancer, but also provide assistance to those who have been diagnosed.

Student held a crazy hair and casual dress day to boost the teenagers’ fundraising goal, with the recently-held Footy Colour Day also adding to the final total.

In an extra effort, Miss Roberts donated her hair to assist in making wigs for those undertaking treatment for cancer.

“It is a really big change to have short hair now, but I’m glad I did it,” Miss Gloster said.

“I did not expect for the experience to feel so surreal,” Miss Roberts said.
