KERANG Bowling Club is “bowling along” with the 2023-24 pennant season rapidly approaching.
There has been plenty of activity on the greens over the past week.
On Thursday we ran an opening day social event which, although interrupted by rain, was a great day on challengingly fast greens.
All enjoyed fellowship and a smorgasbord of delicious afternoon tea.
Lorraine Adams again excelled in assembling attractive raffle prizes which were won by Don Jenkins and Denise Frantz.
Two teams won both games with one point separating them in the final count-down.
Gayle Teasdale, Fraser McQuire and Barry Theobald scored 52 points and 17 shots up to pip Helen McBain, Heather Garnham, George Fenton and Ron McKerrow with 51 points and 17 shots up.
It was a pleasure to see some of our past pennant players, namely Betty Jobling, Betty Livingston, Mary Pay and Coral Wise, join us for a chat and afternoon tea.
Last Saturday saw 17 people enjoying the sunshine with Fraser McQuire, David Randell, our visitor Jan from Tasmania and Barb Williams taking home the prize on a countback from the other teams.
It was great to have Jim and Heather, from Korumburra, and Phil and Jan, from Sandy Bay, in Tassie playing with us.
Congratulations to Lindsay Hein, Ken Byrne and Don Monaghan who had a profitable day taking out first prize at the Swan Hill Racecourse Club Skins Day on Sunday.
Barry Theobald, Rod Pascoe, Barb Williams and Alyne Fagg, represented our club at Cohuna Golf, managing two wins out of three but not enough shots up to bring home any prizes.
The Tuesday jackpot for the three-bowl triples is now in excess of $200 so should be an incentive to see good fields today. If you don’t have your name in, ring through before 11am and be there for a 12.30pm start.
There will be a practice match against Swan Hill Racecourse Club at Kerang on Sunday, September 17.
Please put your names on the list so teams can be arranged in advance. There will be a barbecue at noon and play will commence at 1pm.
The Ladies’ Drawn Pairs Round Robin will be played on Thursday, September 21 at 10am. Please put your name on the board ASAP and bring your own lunch.
We would like to thank our scribe Merv Tilley as he steps down after many years compiling the notes for us. We hope you enjoy your retirement, Merv.

Sunday Social was attended by 16 players with our caravanning friends, Phil and Jan, joining us again.
Pairs playing 2-4-2 was enjoyed by all and at the completion of two games, we only had one combination who won both games.
Visitor Phil Hobbs teamed with Kevin Chase to take out the top prize, with the Trevors – Linton and Burmeister being the runners up with a win and a tied game. Chocolates to Rob Fisher and Dave King. Rob wasn’t at the presentations, so Dave took both lots.
For those members who participate or help with the organisation of our twilight triples, it is envisaged that this series would commence in early October, so the match committee will again be looking for teams or players to participate in this enjoyable series.
