THE highlight of the week was the annual Anzac Day Triples event last Tuesday and the beautiful autumn weather made for a terrific day, with all proceeds going to Legacy.
We had tremendous support from the local clubs as well our neighbouring Northern District friends, along with two teams from Lockington.
A total of 24 teams – our maximum number – played three games of eight ends and after some great bowls, there were four teams who won all their games, so detailed countbacks were required to sort out the winners.
A score of 75 points and 17 shots up was enough to gain the winner’s prize, with a surprised Carmel Adams leading the victorious team of David King and Lloyd Murray.
In second place with 75 points as well, but only 14 shots up overall, was the Pat Quinn team from Cohuna Golf, consisting of Bruce Morrison and Jason Heard. Third place was also decided on a countback, with 74 points as the winning score.
The Wakool team of Ric Ainsworth, Ian Main and Graham Rowlands finished 20 shots up and took the last place on the podium, with the team of Laurie Gray, Allison Medson and Mick Pors with 74 points and 18 shots up, just missing out.
The best last game score was recorded by Marlene Rawson, Richard Murray and John Duckworth with 26 points.
Encouragement chocolates were presented to Shirley Slingo’s team from Barham, just in front of Gary Wishart’s team.
A great afternoon with nearly $800 from the bowls added to the golf contribution and the raffle for the RSL Legacy fund.
Thursday social was played under threatening skies, but the 12 players managed to get through two games of pairs, without getting wet.
The only two-game winners were Jim McLeish and Rob Malseed, who collected the major prize.
Runners-up were Bryce McLeish and John Duckworth. Encouragement award to Rob Fisher and Dale Spinks.
The next weekend tournament in the area is at Pyramid Hill on Sunday, but the pie and soup days continue on Thursdays at Cohuna, Cohuna Golf and Leitchville (not sure which one this week). If you wish to enter any of these days and need assistance, give Aldo a call.
Our social bowls continue on Thursdays and Sundays, with registration by 12.45pm and bowls at 1pm.
A different game is played each session (depending on numbers), with some interesting and different games being played.
Come along and enjoy a fun afternoon. Hopefully the autumn weather continues, with the sun shining and plenty of support of members and visitors.
