PET specialty retailer PETstock has added Cohuna and Barham Mitre 10 to its stable of rural focused stores, in a handover of the business from one 100 per cent Australian, family-owned business to another.
The purchase of the two businesses extends PETstock’s commitment to rural Australia and enhances and grows their produce, equine, rural supplies, and general pet offer under its PETstock Country brand, and will now include hardware as a complementary range.
Managing director David Young said first and foremost the purchase was strategically right for PETstock but being able to help grow the businesses and support the Cohuna and Barham communities was also something he, chief executive Shane and the Young family are looking forward to.
“Cohuna and Barham Mitre 10 are terrific stores, and the values of our two businesses are very similar,” Mr Young said.
“We are looking forward to continuing the exceptional customer service standard Ross, Daniel and the team here have provided over the last 35 years.
“Our intention is not just to keep the existing product range customers know and love, including all of the hardware and rural supplies, but to expand it even further into categories like fencing, water troughs and weed and pest control.
“We will also be improving the buildings on site to integrate a new PETstock store, giving our customers access to the two brands under one roof.
“This will allow us to introduce thousands of products from our general pet range, provide a comprehensive stock food range and offer quality horse rugs from specialist Caribu.
“These improvements are planned over the coming months and I think customers are going to love the new and innovative products and services these changes will allow us to bring to Cohuna and Barham.
“In turn, our goal is to use the Mitre 10 team’s knowledge to grow our expertise in the hardware area as we look at future opportunities for our many regional stores across the country.”
PETstock also values the role it plays in communities and in conjunction with the existing Cohuna and Barham Mitre 10 team, look forward to continuing to be a significant contributor to the greater region.
