Four will try to topple Broad

FEDERAL Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad has received the prized top spot on the ballot when voters go to the polls on July 2.

The Nationals representative is one of five people vying to represent one of the largest electorates in the State, covering the area bordered by the Murray River and the Victoria-South Australia border.

Major towns in the electorate, which includes close to 93,000 voters, include Horsham, Mildura and Swan Hill.

Mr Broad, a former Victorian Farmers Federation president who succeeded long-serving politician, John Forrest at the 2013 ballot, will receive the greatest competition from Labor’s Lydia Senior.

The second-time candidate is challenging voters to select the Australian Labor Party to make the Mallee electorate a marginal seat, effectively gaining greater exposure to government funding for projects and services.

Mallee is regarded as the Nationals’ safest seat in Australia.

Joining Mr Broad and Ms Senior in seeking election for a second successive ballot are Lake Boga resident, Chris Lahy (Citizens Electoral Council) and Helen Healy, who will represent The Greens.

Mildura company manager, Tim Middleton is the Rise Up Australia candidate.
