Crucial win for Murray Downs

MURRAY Downs came away from their match against Kerang with the chocolates in a much-needed win for the Rams’ finals hopes.

As result of defeating the previously second-placed Kerang, Murray Downs have now pulled out for a small but comfortable nine-point margin between themselves on 78 points and in-town rivals Racecourse in fifth place.

Their opponents dropped to third on the ladder after being overtaken by Barham.

Kerang will this week go up against the undefeated Cohuna Golf for the final round of the season.

If they lose by a big margin, they could fall down as low as fifth place if Murray Downs are victorious against last-placed Kerang Golf and Racecourse get the maximum 12 points against Barham.

In other action at the weekend, Racecourse went on the road to face Cohuna Golf with their finals hopes well and truly alive.

It ended in dismay for Racecourse as Cohuna Golf were just too good, winning easily with 72 shots to 60.

Cohuna Golf won on two of the three rinks available, claiming 10 points to two.

Racecourse will need to have a miracle-on-grass performance if they want to push for finals when they face Barham this week.

Barham pulled off a massive win on their home turf against Kerang Golf.

It was proven too easy for Barham, who had 83 shots compared to Kerang Golf’s 49 shots, and won on all three rinks to get all 12 points.

Kerang Golf will be on the road for the final time this season when they take on Murray Downs with hopes they can finish off the season with a win.
