COHUNA Golf have smashed Kerang Golf at the weekend to continue their immaculate season with 12 straight wins.
The victors claimed another 10 points on the ladder by winning two rinks and having the most shots available with 92 points, while Kerang Golf only had 52 points.
With more and more wins coming in, Cohuna Golf are by far the favourite to win the inaugural Northern Valley Premier League.
They will this weekend be hosting a Racecourse side just one point out of the top four and hoping to make finals.
Racecourse made needed progress in arguably one of the most crucial matches of the season at the weekend as they destroyed second-placed Kerang.
In a victory rewarded with the maximum-available 12 points, Racecourse was by far the team in control as they won on all three rinks and had the most shots overall to win comfortably with 90 shots to Kerang’s 50 shots.
Now there is only three points in it between Racecourse, fourth-placed Murray Downs and third-placed Barham, setting up an exciting final two home-and-away rounds.
It would seem unfortunate timing for Racecourse to face Cohuna Golf, by far the team to beat this season, but there’s an opportunity for the finals aspirants to pull off a significant upset on the top side’s home green.
In the weekend’s other match, Murray Downs went on the road to face Barham.
After what was considered as a very even match, Murray Downs just barely managed to defeat Barham on points, as they had the most shots overall with 58 while Barham was just behind with 56.
In terms of rinks, Barham won two out of the three, as both teams were pushing to the limit to get the edge in the race for finals.
Barham will this weekend host last-placed Kerang Golf, which appears to present Barham a chance to win the most points available and maintain their grip on finals.
Murray Downs will be on the road again to face Kerang, and the Rams will be hoping to have a strong performance like Racecourse so they can hold onto fourth place.
