Venue debate

THE Central Murray Football Netball League board will meet tonight to confirm which of the competition’s 12 venues will host May 19’s AFL Victoria Community Championship match against the Sunraysia Football Netball League.

In what was to be a coup for the Cohuna Kangas Football Netball Club, the Cohuna Recreation Reserve was to host the encounter between the 17th and 18th-ranked competitions in Victoria, however SFNL management raised concerns regarding the distance between Mildura and the CMFNL’s southernmost venue.

With both competitions planning for under 16 and under 18 representative football sides, as well as 13 and under, 15 and under and 17 and under netball squads, to play on the same day as their senior counterparts, Sunraysia representatives would face a three and a half hour drive to the venue.

The venue is close to one hour away from Sunraysia’s preferred venue, the Swan Hill Showgrounds – which has been the CMFNL’s preferred venue for interleague matches this century.
